Stray Kids have once again entered the US Billboard 'Hot 100' with their new single ‘Lose My Breath’ featuring Charlie Puth, solidifying their position as a leading global K-pop group.
According to Billboard’s official SNS on the 21st, Stray Kids’ new English single ‘Lose My Breath’, released on May 10th, debuted at 90th place on the Billboard 'Hot 100' chart for May 25th (local time).
This marks the second time Stray Kids have entered the 'Hot 100'. They first achieved this milestone with the title track 'Rock' (LALALALA) from their mini-album 'Rockstar', released in November last year, making them the first fourth-generation K-pop boy group to enter this chart. Their return to the 'Hot 100' once again proves their dominance in the global music market.
‘Lose My Breath’ captures the fleeting and unfamiliar feelings of meeting someone for the first time. The track, which features Charlie Puth and showcases a more emotional side of Stray Kids, has garnered attention since its announcement.
In addition to its 'Hot 100' success, ‘Lose My Breath’ performed well on various Billboard charts, ranking 35th on the 'Billboard Global 200', 22nd on 'Billboard Global (excluding the US)', 52nd on the 'Artist 100', 5th on 'LyricFind Global', and 8th on 'Digital Song Sales'.
The track also entered the UK Official Singles Chart at 97th place on May 17th, further proving Stray Kids' wide-reaching global popularity.
Despite a boycott movement among some global fandoms due to Charlie Puth's support for Israel in the Israel-Hamas conflict, which slightly affected US Spotify streaming performance, digital sales of the single increased compared to previous releases, maintaining its 'Hot 100' ranking. The previous single 'Rock' ranked 20th on 'Digital Song Sales'.
Following their appearance on the US ABC morning show 'Good Morning America' on the 15th, Stray Kids continued their promotions with a performance on NBC's 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' on the 22nd. The group also attended the 2024 Met Gala in New York on May 6th, heightening anticipation for their comeback.
Popular culture critic Ha Jae-geun commented on Stray Kids' consecutive 'Hot 100' entries, stating, "Unlike album charts, which are influenced by fandom size, the 'Hot 100' reflects broader popular appeal, making it challenging for idols to chart there. While Stray Kids have not fully captured the general American pop market, their significant fandom size has led to actual chart success. If they release a song that resonates with the American public, they are poised for another leap forward."
Meanwhile, Stray Kids, who have found success with 'Lose My Breath', are set for a domestic comeback this summer. They will headline various music festivals, including ‘I-Days’ in Milan, Italy on July 12th, ‘British Summer Time Hyde Park’ in London, UK on July 14th, and ‘Lollapalooza Chicago’ in the US on August 2nd, further cementing their global presence.
