Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho says that the drama started with the imagination of what would happen if the events in the Japanese manga "Parasyte" took place in Korea.
The Netflix series "Parasyte: The Grey" is based on the Japanese manga by Iwaaki Hitoshi. With its inventive imagination of parasites controlling human brains and bodies, and its philosophical message, the manga has gained enormous popularity in more than 30 regions and countries.
Director Yeon Sang-ho sent a letter to the original author, proposing to create a work with new ideas added to it, and fortunately, the original author readily agreed.
The story begins with parasites trying to expand their power using humans as hosts, and the operations of the dedicated team "The Grey" to stop them. In the midst of this, there is the story of Jeong Su-in (Jeon So-nee), a human who ends up in a symbiotic relationship with a parasite.
"Parasyte: The Grey" is a Netflix original series and will be released on April 5th.
