Singer Lee Seung-yoon delved into his thoughts and reflections on his music.
On the afternoon of the 3rd, Lee Seung-yoon held a showcase for the pre-release of his third full-length album 'Yeokseong' at Yes24 Winderoch Hall in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
This album features eight selected tracks from his upcoming third full-length album, scheduled for release later this year. It is his first release in about 1 year and 6 months since his second album 'Home of Dreams'.
During the showcase, Lee Seung-yoon stated, "'Yeokseong' is an album about acknowledging the inevitable but still striving to defy it. The eight tracks in this pre-release album reflect that mindset."
The first title track 'Waterfall' is a psychedelic alternative song that defies inertia. Its long six-minute duration is marked by grand orchestral arrangements and impressive band sounds.
The second title track 'Firework Time' is a post-garage style song that defies darkness, featuring a funky sound reminiscent of a summer night festival ending with fireworks.
Lee Seung-yoon mentioned, "There's a line in 'Waterfall' that says 'I'll show my fountain,' which I think encapsulates the message of this album. My creed is to 'live within my means.' I'm brutally realistic with myself, but there are external perceptions of me that create internal conflicts, and I wanted to express that."
Choosing 'Waterfall,' a six-minute song, as the title track was not easy. "Despite the challenges, I wanted 'Waterfall' as the title and decided to pour everything into my performances," he added.
When asked about his diverse fanbase, he said, "I don't really know. I'm not a targeted artist. I think it's the ultimate achievement for a musician to be loved by people of all ages and genders. I'm grateful for my diverse fanbase."
Regarding his musical message, he said, "I don't have a mission to convey anything through music. It's more about reflecting my mindset. However, all eight songs in this album are provocative. I hope they provide moments of courage to those who need a bold push."
Lee Seung-yoon's commitment to releasing three full-length albums consecutively and his preference for long-form music reflects his unique musical philosophy. "I'm not denying the era of short-form content; I enjoy it. But what I really want to do is long-form content, much like how Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese's works were significant amidst the surge of Marvel and superhero movies," he explained.
"I want to live stylishly and disappear stylishly," he added, sharing his distinctive musical philosophy. He acknowledged the lack of hit songs but the ability to fill concert halls, saying, "It's true that I don't have hit songs, yet I can fill venues. I think that's something to be thankful for. I pour all my passion into what I want to do, even if it doesn't produce hit songs."
