“Receiving so much expectation from everyone is a bit burdensome, but it also makes us want to prove to those who support and love us that their choice was not wrong.
It actually motivates us more.
We still have a lot to show, and thinking about what lies ahead makes us excited,” said Julie when asked if the public’s high expectations were burdensome.
Kiss of Life, known for their powerful vocals, confident stage presence, and hip, free-spirited concepts, has returned after three months with a refreshing and lively summer look.
Meeting with them at a café in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on the 27th, the group was brimming with excitement at the prospect of showcasing a new side of themselves to the public.
Having previously showcased strong and charismatic performances with songs like 'Midas Touch' and 'Bad News', Kiss of Life aims for the 'Summer Queen' title with their new bright and cheerful summer song 'Sticky'.
The digital single album 'Sticky', released on the 1st, includes the title track 'Sticky' and 'Te Quiero', a song composed by Belle.
Belle explained, “‘Te Quiero’ was created with the goal of making genre-heavy Latin music.
It evokes artists like Camila Cabello and aims to showcase a girl group capable of performing Latin pop music, a genre not commonly seen in Korea.”
While 'Sticky' embodies the bright summer day, 'Te Quiero' captures the enchanting vibe of a midsummer night, encapsulating two different summer atmospheres in one album.
Despite being a rookie group that just celebrated their first anniversary, Kiss of Life has already garnered a reputation for their skills.
They are known for their excellent live performances and for having members who actively participate in songwriting and choreography.
Their song ‘Midas Touch,’ released in April, reached number 165 on the Billboard 200 and won the Rookie of the Year award at the Korean Music Awards, earning them the nickname ‘miracle of the mid-sized idols.’
When asked why they think Kiss of Life has garnered so much attention, Belle responded, “Our motto is freedom.
On stage, we are free, and we express our distinct personalities and skills without smoothing out our rough edges.
I think this raw and energetic expression appeals to the public.”
The members of Kiss of Life did not hide their confidence in their solid skills.
Especially proud of their recent live performances at university festivals, Julie said, “I think live performances help us grow the most.
We recently performed at many festival stages, and I feel that we have improved a lot through these experiences.”
She added, “We are still immature and have a lot of shortcomings.
Pursuing rawness might show some imperfections, but we want to instill confidence in people by showing that it’s okay not to be perfect.”
What are Kiss of Life’s next goals after leaving many marks in their first year? Julie said, “We reached the Billboard 200 with ‘Midas Touch,’ but this time we want to break into the top 100.
We also want to achieve number one on the album or digital charts.
Watching senior group Kara make a comeback inspires us to be a healthy and happy four-member girl group for a long time.”
