BTS member Suga's recent drunk driving incident has sparked further controversy as allegations of negligence during his military service emerge.
The incident, which occurred while Suga was serving as a social service agent, continues to draw significant public attention as new accusations arise daily.
On August 16, a post appeared on an online community revealing that a complaint had been filed with the Military Manpower Administration through the national petition system. The complaint demands a thorough investigation into Suga's alleged negligence during his service. The complainant strongly urged the administration to scrutinize Suga's role as a team leader at the Social Service Training Center and whether he deserved the commendation he received.
Mr. A detailed his experience in a post on the app "Public Human," commonly used by social service agents, describing their time together at the Social Service Training Center in Boeun County, North Chungcheong Province, from November 20 to 24 last year.
Mr. A alleged that Suga, who was assigned as a team leader, failed to properly participate in the sessions throughout the 4-day, 5-night program.
He claimed,
"Suga rarely engaged in the classes, and even the instructor seemed to notice his lack of participation."
Mr. A further asserted that
"Suga would wake up from naps, nod without understanding what was happening, and then return to his phone before falling asleep again," adding that "Suga's team had the lowest participation rate."
stating,
"If the whistleblower's claims are true, Suga likely received a special 5-day leave after being awarded a commendation from the training center."
The complainant called for the immediate cancellation of this leave if the commendation was obtained improperly, and if the leave has already been used, for it to be deducted from his remaining vacation days.
Meanwhile, on the evening of August 6th, Suga was apprehended by the police near his residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, for riding an electric scooter while under the influence.
His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.227%, far exceeding the legal limit of 0.08%. This has led to widespread criticism, with some fans even organizing a "truck protest" calling for his departure from BTS.
A KBS representative stated,
"Suga is currently fulfilling his alternative military service, so there are no scheduled programs for him to appear on.
This is not an issue that requires immediate action, especially as the police investigation is ongoing and the outcome is yet to be determined."
The Military Manpower Administration has not issued a statement regarding the complaints, and the police plan to summon Suga for questioning soon.
This incident has heightened public interest in the military obligations of celebrities, and further controversy is expected depending on the investigation results.
