BTS member RM's solo second album has been named one of the 'Best Albums' and 'Best Songs' of the first half of 2024 by prestigious international media outlets.
RM’s solo second album, “Right Place, Wrong Person,” released on May 24, has been recognized as one of the 'Best Albums of the First Half of 2024' by Billboard, Rolling Stone, and NME.
Billboard, a leading American music magazine, praised RM’s album, saying, “RM’s first solo album ‘Indigo,’ released in 2022, was already diverse, but ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ showcases his significant leap as a solo artist.”
They further noted, “While BTS expanded the boundaries of K-pop, RM broke the very notion of boundaries within K-pop with his new album, which includes various genres such as jazz, funk, R&B, and Afrobeat.” Billboard highlighted the album as the richest in sound among the albums released in the first half of this year.
In Billboard’s 'Top 50 Best Albums of the First Half of 2024', RM’s album was listed alongside works by global musicians such as Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Four Tet, and Billie Eilish.
Rolling Stone, another renowned American music publication, stated, “In his solo second album, RM delves deeply between his persona as a global music market conqueror and as an ordinary young man, Kim Nam-joon.”
They described the album as “psychedelic and emotional, blending introspective lyrics with music that invites listeners to new explorations.”
The British music magazine NME commented, “RM showcased an unexpected side through this intense and self-reflective album.”
The American media outlet Uproxx selected “Come Back to Me,” a pre-released track from “Right Place, Wrong Person,” as the 'Best Song of the First Half of 2024'.
They remarked, “The solid brand of 'BTS' is built on accessible music, but the members pursue different directions in their solo careers. RM’s new album covers various styles and emotions, with 'Come Back to Me' being the highlight.
Despite not being a BTS group song, it is as smooth as 'Butter'.”
RM’s solo second album, “Right Place, Wrong Person,” resonates with universal emotions that everyone experiences at least once in their lives and delivers messages that people striving to find answers can relate to.
RM participated in writing the lyrics for all 11 tracks on the album, completing his narrative.
The album debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s main album chart, the 'Billboard 200' (June 8 issue), and remained on the chart for two consecutive weeks.
